Seasonal Programs

Ritter Center operates a number of seasonal programs that provide essential items and support for people in need at critical times of the year. These are made possible thanks to the generosity of in-kind donations and financial support from our community.

Back to School

Many low-income families simply do not have the means to purchase backpacks and school supplies for their children. In July through mid-August, Ritter Center collects backpacks, school supplies, and department store gift cards for its Back-to-School Program, which helps ensure that all children can start the school year prepared to learn and achieve scholastically.

If you are interested in making a donation to this program, please call 415.457.8182 ext. 109

Thanksgiving Food

Ritter Center helps make it possible for low-income families in Marin County to enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner with their families. We provide all of the ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal to more than 150 families every year. This program is possible through the generosity of St. Anselm Church in Ross, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Belvedere, First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, and the Marin County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association.

Family-to-Family Holiday Sharing

Our Family to Family Holiday Program allows generous community members and groups to “adopt” a less fortunate family for the holidays. These families are actively engaged in our services throughout the year. Donors can begin signing up for this program in November and then shop for their adopted family with a provided gift wish list. Typically, we help more than 150 Marin families each year.

Holiday Dinner

Ritter Center and its Board of Directors hosts a Holiday dinner for our homeless clients the week before Christmas. With the generous support of First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, more than 200 meals are served. Each client leaves with a care bag and a backpack.

During COVID we are reducing our in-kind drop-off options and celebratory collection days due to health and safety protocols. Instead, where possible, we are asking for online donations or donations via check so that we can equitably provide gift cards for families and individuals to buy the items they need.

If you have any questions about making a donation to Ritter Center or becoming a corporate partner, please email Interim Director of Development, Jessica Hansen at [email protected].

If you would like to arrange a group in-kind donation drive and drop-off, please contact Jorge Garcia, Client Services Manager at 415-457-8182 x109.
