Stronger Together: A Day for Women’s Health and Care

In today’s world, women are often pulled in every direction—juggling careers, family responsibilities, and caregiving roles, whether they are raising children or supporting aging parents. For some, the challenges are even more extreme: many women are unhoused, battling every day just to survive.

Amid this relentless pace of life, self-care too often becomes a distant afterthought.

Women’s Health Day at Ritter Center is more than a health initiative—it’s a tribute to resilience, renewal, and empowerment. On October 21st, Ritter Center will provide free, essential services to low-income and uninsured women, including mammograms, pap smears, haircuts, manicures, and massages—restoring a sense of dignity and reminding them they are worthy of care. This event creates moments of joy and connection, affirming that every woman’s well-being matters.

Women’s Health Day underscores the importance of early health screenings—because prevention saves lives.

“Access to services like mammograms empowers women to take ownership of their health,” says Sehrish Khan, Clinical Compliance Director at Ritter Center. “It’s crucial for women to prioritize these screenings, as early detection can significantly improve health outcomes.”

By offering free mammograms, Ritter Center emphasizes that prioritizing health opens the door to a brighter, healthier future.

Women’s Health Day also fosters moments of personal renewal and dignity. Jowell Solano, esthetician and owner of It’s On Me, shares a poignant story from a previous Women’s Health Day:

“Following a basic facial treatment, a woman peered in the mirror and teared up, saying it was the first time in months she felt ‘human’ again. These small moments of care can make a huge difference in how someone sees themselves.”

Participating in Women’s Health Day reflects Jowell’s belief that self-care and wellness are essential for everyone, especially for women who may not have access to these resources.

“Everyone deserves bodywork,” says Massage therapist Tobi Lessem, who understands that self-care extends beyond the physical—it’s also about nurturing mental well-being. Bodywork can restore balance, relieve stress, and renew confidence, especially for women who often prioritize others over themselves. Tobi understands that even small moments of personal care can have a profound impact on confidence and self-worth. “When you’re fighting to meet basic needs like food and shelter, it’s easy to lose touch with yourself. Offering facials, skincare advice, or just a brief moment of peace allows these women to reconnect with their dignity. It’s not just about appearance—it’s about reclaiming self-love and finding moments of tranquility.”

Women’s Health Day reminds us that when women flourish, everyone benefits. Healthier women foster healthier families, stronger neighborhoods, and more vibrant communities. This October, we honor the spirit of women and the collective care that uplifts us all.

If you know someone who could benefit from Women’s Health Day—or if you want to get involved—we invite you to join us. Together, we are making a difference, one woman, one moment at a time.

A heartfelt thanks to our supporters, Partnership HealthPlan of California and Alinea Medical Imaging, for making this day possible.
