Women’s Health Day
On Wednesday, October 18, Ritter Center hosted Women’s Health Day at 16 Ritter Street, San Rafael. This FREE event was created for women who are low income and/or unsheltered who are uninsured or have Medi-Cal and/or Medicare.
October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth. For women who are living in poverty, access to early detection tools is often not an option. We are pleased to report that with healthcare partners Partnership HealthPlan of California and Alinea Medical Imaging, 31 women received a FREE mammogram during Women’s Health Day at Ritter Center.
Over 100 women also enjoyed services including free haircuts, nail services, massages, facials and goodie bags packed with toiletries, sanitary products, hair care products, hygiene kits, and more. Everyone enjoyed free food and drinks including rice bowls from Ecuadorian food truck Ceviche & Co. and coffee thanks to Starbucks on Irwin St. San Rafael.
This was a real community event and a wonderful collaboration between the Medical, Client Services, Admin, and Advancement Departments at Ritter Center.
We are also very grateful to everyone who contributed their time and talents that day including; Ritter Staff member, NuBeing who provided free hair styling, Jowell Solano for providing mini facials, Dr. Jill Keefer from the National Holistic Institute for providing massages, Jessika Adams de Vazquez, Co-owner of Milvali Salon and Cosmetics and colleagues Candie Cabrera and Raven Mann for providing free hair cuts, nail services, and product giveaways, and Aveda Corte Madera for the in-kind products.
We are also incredibly grateful for Board Member, Carol Angel and Supervisor Mary Sackett‘s volunteerism, and to all of our staff and volunteers for their time and energy – collectively we created a wonderful day for our women clients who rarely get the chance to access or enjoy some self-care.
