Seasonal Programs


Ritter Center operates a number of seasonal programs that provide essential items and support for people in need at critical times of the year. These are made possible thanks to the generosity of in-kind donations and financial support from our community and corporate partners.

Back-to-School Backpack Program

Many low-income families simply do not have the means to purchase backpacks and school supplies for their children. In July through mid-August, we run our Back-to-School Backpack program and raise funds to provide backpacks, school supplies, and clothing gift cards for 150-200 local children so they can start the school year prepared to learn and achieve scholastically.


Thanksgiving Food

Ritter Center helps make it possible for low-income families in Marin County to enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner with their families. We provide all of the ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal to more than 150 families every year.

Our Hope for the Holidays campaign raises funds from individuals and corporate sponsorships and we receive in-kind donations from multiple local businesses, faith-based organizations and San Rafael police and Sheriffs Department.

Family-to-Family Holiday Gift Card

Our Family to Family Holiday Gift Card Program provides gift cards for families and individuals to buy holiday gifts and essentials.

As part of our annual Hope for the Holidays campaign we raise funds from individuals and corporate sponsorships to help purchase over $35,000 in gift cards which we distribute to hundreds of our clients so they can have a happier holiday season.

Holiday Dinner

Ritter Center and its Board of Directors hosts a Holiday dinner for our homeless clients the week before Christmas. With the generous support of First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, more than 200 meals are served. Each client leaves with a care bag, a coat, and a backpack.

Fundraising for this event is also part of our annual Hope for the Holidays campaign which starts in October and runs through December 31.
